Brand Story

A Brand Selkirk Puts
Its Own Name On

Selkirk Sport was founded in Idaho in 2014 and has been making paddles ever since. SLK by Selkirk is how Selkirk brings the sport to more people. Selkirk describes the brand's mission as "making the sport accessible to players of all levels."

As the name says, this is Selkirk's own brand. The paddles are designed by Selkirk in the US and made in China. SLK's job is to take the thinking developed in Selkirk's higher-end lines and bring it to a more affordable price.

In February 2026, SLK streamlined its paddle lineup and gave each model a clearer role. Selkirk co-founder Mike Barnes said the goal was "making the path from a first-time player to a competitive athlete more intuitive."

Why SLK

Why Pickleball Lab
Recommends SLK

A Raw Carbon Face at This Price
Geo has a T700-grade raw carbon face. ERA Power pairs a three-layer face of raw carbon and fiberglass with a core that combines honeycomb and foam. The materials are far more serious than the price might suggest.
Room to Grow Without Switching Brands
Start with SLK, and when it no longer keeps up with your game, step up to AMPED, LUXX or OMNI in Selkirk's main line. You won't have to start your search over from scratch with a different brand.
Every Model We Carry Is USA Pickleball Approved
We've confirmed that every SLK paddle we carry appears on the USA Pickleball approved paddle list under the brand name "SLK By Selkirk" (as of October 2026). At tournaments that require USA Pickleball approval, the paddle you bought for practice is ready to play.
Technology

The Technology Behind SLK Paddles

Face
Raw Spin Technology
A textured finish on a T700 raw carbon face. Selkirk describes it as a surface designed to enhance spin and ball control.
Geo / ERA Power
Face
3-Layered Face
A three-layer face that combines woven fiberglass with T700 raw carbon. According to Selkirk, the construction balances stiffness and flex to add ball speed and spin.
ERA Power
Core
Dynamic Fusion Core
A polypropylene honeycomb core surrounded by low-density, closed-cell EVA foam. According to Selkirk, the foam perimeter adds stability on contact and forgiveness on off-center hits.
ERA Power
Core
Rev-Pro Polymer Honeycomb Core
A polypropylene honeycomb core cut down to 14mm, 2mm thinner than the common 16mm. In general, the thinner the core, the more pop you get and the more feel comes through to your hand.

SLK vs. Selkirk:
What's the Difference?

The biggest difference is who each line is built for, and the price. The main Selkirk line (AMPED, LUXX, OMNI and more) is aimed mainly at competitive players. SLK covers everyone from brand-new players to those working toward the next level, at a lower price.

The other difference is the warranty. SLK's warranty is handled separately from the main Selkirk line, and the terms also depend on where you bought the paddle. Which one you choose comes down to your budget and how competitive you want to get.

Geo
Raw Carbon in Your First Paddle

Selkirk positions Geo as an all-court paddle. It has a T700-grade raw carbon face and a 14mm polypropylene honeycomb core. Raw carbon faces took off in higher-end paddles, and Geo brings that construction down to this price range.

At 14mm, the core is 2mm thinner than the common 16mm. Selkirk describes Geo as a balance of power and control, with a soft feel and plenty of forgiveness on off-center hits. It comes in two shapes: Widebody and Elongated.

ERA Power
The SLK Flagship

Released in June 2025, ERA Power is the model Selkirk calls the SLK flagship. It's aimed at intermediate to advanced players, and both the core and the face are built very differently from an entry-level paddle.

The core is the Dynamic Fusion Core, with foam surrounding the honeycomb, and the face is three layers of fiberglass and raw carbon. As the name suggests, it leans toward power and suits players who like to drive the ball hard. Selkirk says that on top of strong drives, it also makes it easy to place the ball in the soft game.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most before people buy.

Are SLK and Selkirk different companies?+
No, both are Selkirk Sport. SLK by Selkirk is a Selkirk Sport sub-brand, and its paddles are designed by Selkirk as well. Compared with the main Selkirk lines (AMPED, LUXX, OMNI and more), it targets a different group of players and a different price range, and its warranty is handled differently. To learn more about the main line, see the Selkirk brand page.
Is SLK a beginner brand?+
It's certainly an easy brand to recommend to beginners, but it isn't only for beginners. Selkirk positions SLK as a brand for "players of all levels." For example, Geo is aimed at beginner to intermediate players, and ERA Power at intermediate to advanced players. What SLK does well is let you pick a paddle that fits your play style while keeping your budget in check.
Can I use SLK paddles in sanctioned tournaments?+
We've confirmed that every SLK paddle we carry is on the USA Pickleball approved paddle list (as of October 2026). They're listed under the brand name "SLK By Selkirk." Some tournaments require approval from an organization other than USA Pickleball, so please check the tournament rules before you play.
Where are SLK paddles made?+
The country of origin is China. The design work is done by Selkirk in the US. An American brand doesn't automatically mean American-made, so if this matters to you, please also check the labeling on each product page.
What's the difference between a 14mm and a 16mm core?+
In general, a thinner core sends more feel to your hand and gives the ball more pop. A thicker core keeps the ball on the face longer, which tends to make it easier to take pace off and drop the ball softly. In the SLK lineup, Geo has a 14mm core and ERA Power has a 16mm core. If you can't decide which suits you, tell us how you usually play on LINE.
What's the difference between gray-market (parallel-import) and genuine products?+
The biggest difference is the support you get after purchase. With gray-market products, even an initial defect can mean dealing with an overseas seller. As an authorized Selkirk Sport dealer, Pickleball Lab sources SLK paddles through official channels as well, and if a paddle arrives with an initial defect, we're your point of contact and handle it locally, right here in Japan. Warranty terms vary by line and by where you purchased, so please contact us for details.
