The original LOCO's foam core carries over. The surface is new.
The Bread & Butter LOCO 2 pickleball paddle is the successor to the original LOCO, the fan-voted Paddle of the Year at The Dink Awards 2025. It builds on the same foam core design and swaps the face surface for the new Space Dust Grit. Choose from two shapes: Elongated and Hybrid.
The color we carry is Blanco: a dark face, a whitish edge guard and a red grip.
What's new: Space Dust Grit
Bread & Butter sums it up as "spin that lasts." Pickleheads, whose reviewer played both shapes for six hours, also called the surface the headline change from the original. The product description gives no figure for how long the grit lasts.
The shape and dimensions are the same as the original; the published weight and swing weight have shifted slightly.
Inside: a 16mm foam core
The core skips honeycomb entirely: 16mm of EPP and EVA foam. The face is T700 raw carbon, and the build also includes a fiberglass layer that the manufacturer says is there "for increased pop." On paper, this is a power-leaning build.
Two shapes to choose from: Elongated and Hybrid
The Elongated is built for reach and power: "Extra reach. Extra heat." The Hybrid is "Balanced and bold," blending that reach and power with the maneuverability and stability of a standard shape for all-court play.
My rule of thumb: if you like to drive from the back of the court or you hit a two-handed backhand, go Elongated. If you want to get your paddle up fast at the net, go Hybrid. If you're often late in fast exchanges, start with the Hybrid and its lower swing weight.
If you play in tournaments that require an approved paddle, the Elongated is the one for now. It has been on both the USA Pickleball (USAP) and UPA-A (the approval used on the pro tour) approved paddle lists since October 1, 2026. The manufacturer has applied for Hybrid approval. The Hybrid's face is also printed with approval marks, but as of October 14, 2026, it is not on either organization's approved list. We'll update this page as soon as we see it listed.
The one area to watch is the midcourt. Pickleheads lists "Tricky midcourt resets" as a downside: with this much pop, softening the ball from the midcourt takes some getting used to. If this is your first power-oriented foam core paddle, put in extra drop and reset reps early on. If you're just starting out, I'd suggest something easier to handle first; SLK, also part of the Selkirk group, is a good place to look.
An octagonal handle
The octagonal handle comes with a vibration-dampening wrap. The Elongated's grip is about 0.2 in (5mm) longer, which suits two-handed backhands.
