What Kind of Brand Is Paddletek? The Real Ability, and the Plainness, of an Original

Paddletek isn't the kind of brand that stands out on social media or in ads. Even so, it's one of the industry's "originals": a brand that calls itself the inventor of the polymer honeycomb core, which is now mainstream.

I'm Coach Yoshi. I played tennis for 15 years, and since meeting pickleball in 2026 I've been looking into how paddle brands differ from one another. Today I'll give you both sides of this brand: its real strengths, and the weaknesses that, honestly, give me pause.

Paddletek Calls Itself "The Originator of the Polymer Core"

Paddletek is an American pickleball-only brand founded in 2010. What I want to point out is its connection to the "polymer honeycomb core", now the industry standard. On its official site, Paddletek introduces itself as the "Inventors of the polymer honeycomb core" and explains that it brought the honeycomb core to pickleball in 2010. It's fair to call it one of the pioneers that built the foundation of the modern paddle.

It also flies the "Made in USA" flag, and its official blog says its paddles are "designed and manufactured in the USA" (that said, not many of its product pages go as far as stating where each model is made). No flash, but a brand that has always valued solid, no-nonsense construction——that's where Paddletek starts.

Where It Stands: Plain, but a Performer That Lands With Advanced Players

Paddletek's position today: "modest name recognition, but proven ability".

In a survey by the industry body SFIA it came in as "the second most chosen brand among advanced players" (as a group overall), and in a 2026 metric measuring exposure (citations) in generative AI it ranked third, ahead of Wilson and Babolat. On ability, the evaluation is higher than you'd imagine (for its place in the market as a whole, see [2025 Edition] Pickleball Major Brand Ranking).

And what set it apart was a pro strategy of winning with very few contracted players. According to a tally by the US outlet The Kitchen, Paddletek paddles won 83 medals on the 2025 PPA Tour. At the time, the brand had just two contracted pros, Anna Leigh Waters and Christian Alshon, and 43 of those medals were won by Anna Leigh Waters. It was a striking contrast to JOOLA's weight of numbers: a brand with a strong "one worth a thousand" flavor. In 2026, though, the roster has changed a great deal (more on that in the weaknesses section).

What It Insists On: "Paddles That Last and Raise Your Game"

Paddletek's philosophy is clear: "build paddles that last and elevate your play".

• Its proprietary Smart Response Technology (SRT) polymer core. The pitch: touch and control on soft shots, and a boost of power on drives and put-away shots.
• The lineup splits broadly into three families: the control-oriented Tempest, the power-oriented Bantam, and the balanced Phoenix. Joining them is Honeyfoam, a newer line built around a foam core. The standard-bearer, the "Tempest Wave", is the flagship that Paddletek itself presents as its best-selling series.
• The warranty is a limited lifetime performance guarantee covering manufacturing defects. It applies only to customers in the United States and Canada, and only to the original owner who registers within 14 days of purchase; the terms state plainly that paddles purchased, shipped to or used outside those regions are not covered. Being able to pick your family by control or power is refreshingly clear, and that's a help when you're the one choosing (I explain the difference in control-focused vs. power-focused).

Who Will It Click With?

• People who value quality and consistency (there's reassurance in core technology built up since 2010)
• People who see value in a build that carries the Made in USA banner
• People who want a dependable paddle at the intermediate to advanced level, whether they lean control (Tempest) or power (Bantam)
• Steady types who would rather choose gear they can trust for years than something with buzz

"I don't need flash, I want plain and sturdy"——for that person, Paddletek lands squarely.

The Honest Weaknesses: Things Worth Admitting

The inconvenient parts, told honestly.

• It lost its flagship player (the biggest blow): Anna Leigh Waters, a top women's player and the face of the brand for seven years after turning pro in 2019, moved to Franklin in January 2026. In 2025 she earned 43 of Paddletek's 83 medals on her own, so the loss as a figurehead is considerable.
• Plain marketing, weak on social media: compared with the loud output from JOOLA and Selkirk, its exposure is modest. Steady, if you're being kind; easily buried, if you're not.
• The impression that it trails the newcomers on buzz around new technology: the flip side of the stability that comes with being the "original" is that it isn't the type to create talk with aggressive new tech.
• The model names are hard to follow: on top of the three families of Tempest, Bantam and Phoenix come a pile of model codes——Wave Pro, TKO-C, EXL-C, ESQ-C and so on——plus different thicknesses and the trailing "-C" (for carbon), which makes it tough for a beginner to keep straight.
• Its pro roster has only just been reshuffled: in 2026, Connor Garnett, Riley Newman and Zane Navratil came over in January from ProXR, a sister brand in the same group, and in July, alongside the acquisition of PIKKL, Tyra Black and the brother-and-sister pair JW Johnson and Jorja Johnson joined the team too. It can no longer be called a brand that "wins with very few contracted players". That said, the Johnson siblings and Tyra Black are reported to be sticking with PIKKL paddles, so how much it can win with Paddletek-branded paddles will depend on the results still to come.

💡 Coach Yoshi's tip Here's one piece of trivia. Paddletek is part of Paddletek Group, which launched in December 2025, and the group also includes other paddle brands such as ProXR. Flashy it may not be, but the trust you can put in the gear is solid——that's Paddletek.

Summary: My Own Conclusion

If you choose on flash, Paddletek will probably leave you wanting. The flagship player has gone, and the social media is plain. But the know-how it has built up as the self-described original of the polymer honeycomb core, and the solidity of a build that carries the Made in USA banner, are strengths that are distinctly its own. If what you want is "a paddle that won't let me down as a tool", this is a brand that answers you quietly. Personally, I rather like this kind of understated cool.
