How to Get Started with DUPR: Account Registration, How to Use the App, and Getting Your First Rating

"DUPR seems difficult." "Registering seems like a hassle." If you're thinking that, don't worry. In reality, starting with DUPR is as easy as creating a social media account.

Step 1: Register for the free app

You can start DUPR with either the free app (iPhone / Android) or the official website (dupr.com).

1. Search for "DUPR" in the app store and download it (or visit dupr.com)
2. Create an account with your email address
3. A confirmation email will be sent; click the "Verify" button in the email body
4. Enter your basic profile information such as name, gender, and region

That's all for registration. There's no cost.

⚠️ Note: App and website are currently English only As of June 2026, DUPR does not support Japanese display (both the app and official website are English only). However, the operation is very simple, and registration only involves the 4 steps above. Even if you're not good at English, you won't get lost if you proceed in the order of "Sign Up" → "Verify" → profile input on the screen. If you get stuck, feel free to ask via LINE.

💡 Coach Yoshi's Tip It's recommended to register your name using the same notation you typically use in tournaments and events. This makes it easier for organizers to find you when they register results later.

One more thing. If you've participated in DUPR-compatible events in the past, you might already have a DUPR rating. After registering, search for your name, and if an existing profile appears, link it to your account (you can apply from "Claim Profile" in the app). If you have duplicate registrations, your valuable match results will be spread out.

Step 2: Record your match results

Your DUPR number is assigned only after you record match results. There are two main ways to record them.

Method A: Enter match results yourself

This method involves entering the results of your matches with friends or club members yourself in the app.

• Select your opponents and partners (they must also be registered with DUPR) and enter the score.
• Once your opponents approve the result, that match will be officially counted.

The advantage is that it's easy to get started. You can simply record results with your friends, saying "I'll enter today's results."

Method B: Tournament and event results are automatically entered

If you participate in tournaments, leagues, or club events that are DUPR-compatible, the organizer will register your results for you. This saves you the trouble of entering them yourself and also increases reliability (more on this later).

💡 Coach Yoshi's Tip Ideally, you'd start by diligently recording results with friends using Method A, and then once you're comfortable, participate in DUPR-compatible events using Method B.

Step 3: Get your first rating

As you record match results, you'll receive your first rating (a temporary number) after a few matches.

Initially, the numbers will fluctuate significantly, but as you play more matches, they will gradually settle down to a number closer to your true skill level. This is because DUPR is designed to become more accurate as more data is accumulated.

Tips for increasing your rating's "reliability"

In addition to the numbers, DUPR also has a metric called Reliability. This indicates "how trustworthy that number is." To increase reliability, the following three things are effective:

1. Play more matches — The more records you have, the more stable your number will be.
2. Play against various opponents and partners — Play against a wide range of people, not just the same ones.
3. Continue to enter new results — Recent matches are given more weight, so don't leave long gaps.
